Senior Capstone Project

January 2024 - April 2024

Problem statement

The current state of the fiber arts apps has focused primarily on the distribution of existing patterns. What existing products/services fail to address is the ability to generate a pattern easily and immediately know what materials are needed. Our product/service will address this gap by providing a pattern and material list generator based on user’s design input.

Research

Our research phase consisted of lit reviews, competitive reviews and a series of interviews.

Each group member completed a write up of different aspects of the domain and an analysis of our would be competitors.

The 5 interviews consisted of questions relating to fiber arts experience, Ui preferences and various other things to help us get a general overview of how our product should function.

Behavioral Variables

We grouped different variables and takeaways from our interviews so that we could identify which ones were most important and prominent in our users. We separated them by color based on the strength of the correlation. After that we highlighted key characteristics and goals and assigned them different user types to base our personas off of.

Personas

From those different variables we were able to pull out our two user types, the experienced and inexperienced user, along with the traits and goals that go along with those users. We later changed this to one user type instead of two save time and make sure that our product wasn’t too complicated.

Requirements

We came up with a context scenario that was derived from our personas and user goals. It described a very high detailed interaction between our personas and our product. We compiled all of the information from our previous exercises into a group of requirements that need to be included in our product.
